Normal West InvitationalThe 2018 season of Eagles Cross Country began with the Normal West Invitational in Bloomington. The boys competed well considering I, one of the top runners, was not racing due to a broken wrist that I had acquired the previous week while flipping a four-wheeler. As a team the boys placed eighth following the lead of Max Varness, who finished with a time of 17:19 on the three mile course. The boys difference in time from their number one runner to their number five runner was twenty-four seconds. The first five runners to finish are the runners that score for the team. The girls also raced at the Normal West Invitational. The girls were able to finish second as a team behind Minooka. That is very impressive considering they were missing their number one runner Abby Johnson due to an injury she had received. Their lead runner was Macy Priess, who finished fifth in a time of 19:05. The girls difference in from their number one to their number five runner was one minute and forty-one seconds. Silver Streak InvitationalThe following week, Eagles Cross Country competed at the Silver Streak Invitational in Galesburg. The Boys were missing me again, but that did not stop them from competing well as a team. Following the lead of JT Templin, who finished tenth in a time of 18:28, the boys finished third as a team just three points behind Galesburg. The boys one-to-five split was twenty-nine seconds. The runner on the left is Max Varness and that is me next to the tree. This is at Galesburg In spite of missing their lead runner for another week, the girls managed to win the meet as a team. They followed the lead of Macy Priess once again, who finished in a time of 20:55. The girls one-to-five split was two minutes and one second. Dunlap InvitationalThe next week, Eagles Cross Country competed at the Dunlap Invitational in Dunlap. The boys finished third, just three points short of first. This was my first race this season and I lead the team, finishing seventh in a time of 16:40 for the three mile course. Our one-to-five split was forty-one seconds. The boys at the start line, just as the race is about to start. The girls finished first as a team, defeating second place by twenty-two points. Macy Priess lead the girls by winning the race in a time of 18:36. She finished with no one else in sight, the next runner finished eleven seconds after her. The girls one-to-five split was one minute and fifty-one seconds.
