Week 1During the first week of track we only have practice 3 days of the week. Coach does this to ease everyone back into the routine of coming to practice and working out everyday. Though everyone should be in shape, and should have been running all winter to prepare for the season, not everyone does. Day 1This year our first track practice consisted of meeting each member on the team and learning the daily routine for warm-ups. After that, the athletes split up into three different groups of throwers, sprinters, and distance runners. I personally am a distance runner so I will mainly be talking about the distance aspect of track. On our first day the distance group went for a 30 minute run. East Peoria Invitational- Cross Country Day 2On the second day after our daily warm-ups the distance team went to the weight room. This was a surprise to me because this is the first time our distance team had stepped foot in the weight room, and it was my 4th year of track. Coach said we were going to be in the weight room at least once a week all throughout the season. After finishing lifting in the weight room we were to do a 15 minute run, which was about 2 miles. Indoor State- Track Day 3To finish the week we did another 30 minute run and finished with strides. Strides are a 100 meter sprint where we work on our form and speed. Upcoming MeetOur first indoor meet is February 22nd, which is 29 days away. The meet is hosted by Galesburg and it is at Knox College. Usually only varsity members race during the indoor season, which includes mostly juniors and senior. Some freshman and sophomores race as well if they excel at practice during workouts.
